Specifications include, but are not limited to: architectural, interiordesign and engineering services to prepare construction documents, specifications and performance of constructionadministration services for the design of the Spencer Laboratory Deferred Maintenance Upgrades and the design of anew mechanical engineering Design Studio. The Deferred Maintenance Project will address replacement of buildingcomponents, utilities and systems that are no longer functional, past their life expectancy, or no longer required for thebuilding program. Additionally, the project will address upgrades to building related to ADA compliance and other codeissues (examples include building envelope, windows, doors, hardware, stair treads, etc.). The intent of the Design Studiois to develop a teaching and working environment that fosters creative problem solving and visual thinking in the design ofmechanical systems. The space is envisioned to be a set of multi-functional spaces that combines curriculum, high andlow-precision prototyping, and advanced computing resources, in a comprehensive and critical vision of the future ofdesign and technology. The Design Studio will serve over 700 students per semester and 20 core design and lab coursesin the Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering undergraduate programs.
