Specifications include, but are not limited to: A Learning Management System (LMS) that not only supports the SDBOR’s current efforts and needs—as articulated in this RFP—but one that is adaptable and proactive; one that will support the SDBOR’s aspirational goals as well as those that may still be well over the horizon. To that end, the future SDBOR LMS should be: A long-term solution that will meet the online learning needs of SDBOR students, instructors, and staff. A flexible solution that supports a range of applications for supplementing traditional classroom instruction, integrating online and face-to-face instruction, and delivering totally online courses and programs. A cost-effective solution that must—if applicable—address the need to migrate existing content. An efficient solution that is easily maintained and integrated with other academic and administrative systems using current technology (such as APIs/IPaas) detailed later in this RFP. An engaging solution that accommodates the full range of content from purely textual to multimedia and laboratory simulations. A supportive solution that provides instructors with a wide variety of pedagogical approaches, because—in large part—design is the responsibility of individual instructors, not instructional designers. The solution should also provide ongoing training for instructors, staff, and students. An intuitive solution that accommodates the differences in needs and demands of different groups of users—from those with no LMS experience to those who have been using an LMS for decades.
