Specifications include, but are not limited to: Provide a textile loom and characterization equipment. A portion of our budget was reallocated in order to purchase a “3D Textile Machine [that] will directly support the objectives of W911QY-18-C-0101 by allowing small samples of material for use in thermoplastic panel joint fabrication and associated technologies.” Additional remaining funds will be used to further support the objectives of W911QY-18-C-0101, which involve fabrication of complex fabric samples, the evaluation of such samples, and the evaluation of textile fibers and fabrics. For versatility, size, and set-up time a flat bed 3D knitter is desired as the 3D textile machine. In support of this machine and other objectives it is desired to have additional characterization equipment as follows: (1) digital microscope capable of high depth of field measurements for fiber and fabric evaluation, (2) a table-top materials testing system for fiber and fabric mechanical property evaluations up to 5kN, and (3) an automatic force tensiometer for determining the surface and interfacial tension between fibers/wires and various coatings.
