Specifications include, but are not limited to: NDOW is seeking a qualified sub-grantee to assess abandoned mine lands (AMLs) for wildlife use. This project will occur across the state of Nevada. NDOW will notify contractor of project sites, which will be clustered in historic mining districts around the state. AMLs will be assessed for wildlife use following Sherwin et al 2009, Managing Abandoned Mines for Bats. Wildlife surveys will consist of full internal surveys unless safety precautions dictate that a mine can’t be surveyed internally in its entirety. In the event a mine cannot be surveyed internally in its entirety due to safety considerations, contractor will use external survey methods (night vision, acoustic recording equipment) and/or external cues of the mine’s history (size, complexity) to suggest wildlife value and an appropriate closure method. Additionally, AMLs that already have bat compatible closures (BCCs) installed will be assessed to determine the BCC’s condition. Wildlife survey assessment data and closure recommendations will be submitted electronically to NDOW per completion of individual projects (a group of geographically defined AMLs) using a spreadsheet data template NDOW provides. Data collected on the status of existing BCCs will be collected with tablets via a software application that NDOW provides. NDOW will measure contractor performance by contractor’s ability to accomplish AML surveys and report findings and closure recommendations in a timely manner. Contractor should anticipate surveying as many as 500 AMLs annually
