Specifications include, but are not limited to: The State Crime Laboratory at the University of Rhode Island is seeking to contract with a trained forensic firearms examiner who will work on-site at the Laboratory. A trained forensic firearms examiner is defined as: a person who has received training in the field of firearms and toolmark examinations, such as that modeled by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) course: National Firearms Examiner Academy. They must have successfully completed a competency test in the comparisons of cartridge cases and projectiles using comparison light microscopy; they must have experience in performing verifications and technical reviews of comparisons of cartridge cases and projectiles using comparison light microscopy, in accordance with ATF, OSAC or other standard guidelines. They must have been approved to perform casework in comparisons of cartridge cases and projectiles using comparison light microscopy at a forensic laboratory accredited to the ISO/IEC 17025 standards.
