Specifications include, but are not limited to: replacing the existing bridge with a new bridge meeting today’s geometric and structural design standards. The new bridge will require aesthetic considerations in accordance with the Section 106 process for historic structures and will be shorter in length to reduce the amount of vacant land under the bridge that has become a security concern. Additional project scope items are listed below. Drainage improvements located within the north and south approaches to the bridge structure along South Heald Street and along portions of D Street just east of the intersection of Heald Street and D Street. Resurfacing of approximately 3,000 LF of South Heald Street from the intersection with Rogers Road to the intersection of Garasches Lane. Full-depth pavement reconstruction of approximately 600 LF of South Heald Street immediately adjacent to the north and south approaches to the bridge structure and along approximately 250 LF of D Street. One (1) new, two-span, steel girder bridge crossing the connector ramp to New Castle Avenue, the 72” CRFM, and Norfolk Southern Railroad. Construction to consider utilization of ABC techniques/longitudinal launching of girders to erect Span 2.
