Specifications include, but are not limited to: Ideas and potential concepts to support several tree distribution and education programs. The current City programs include the following: 1.1. NeighborWoods Tree Distribution and Education Program - The NeighborWoods Program is managed by the Community Tree Preservation division in the City's Development Services Department. This Program, which began in 1992 under the guidance of the Forestry Program in the Parks and Recreation department, has a direct and tangible impact on implementing the Austin Urban Forest Plan. Currently, the program distributes roughly 4600 trees per year throughout the City during the months of October through March. 1.2. Ready, Set, Plant! - Ready, Set, Plant! is managed by the Watershed Protection Department. It is a program that engages volunteers to plant tree seedlings as part of an ongoing effort to restore riparian vegetation along the City’s creeks. Native tree saplings are planted to establish or improve woodland plant communities along waterways and enhance the ecological and social benefits of these creekside forests. Ready, Set, Plant! volunteer planting events support existing efforts by environmental stewards such as creek adopters and park adopters to help create healthy and diverse creekside forest corridors while also increasing awareness about them in the community.
