Specifications include, but are not limited to: Developing and providing compliance and ethics program support and related services to meet the Office of Inspector General (OIG) compliance program guidance (2000, 2008) for Nursing Facilities, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) Section 483.85 compliance requirements for Skilled Nursing Facility and the Department of Justice’s Guidelines for evaluating and effective compliance program. Compliance and Ethics programs must include the following elements in order to be consider a valid program. These elements are based on the USSG’s seven elements of a compliance program and are incorporated into the OIG’s compliance program guidance. • implementing written policies, procedures and standards of conduct; • designating a compliance officer and compliance committee; • conducting effective training and education; • developing effective lines of communication; • enforcing standards through well publicized disciplinary guidelines; • conducting internal monitoring and auditing; and • responding promptly to detected offenses and developing corrective action.
