Specifications include, but are not limited to: Qualified firms to provide architectural and engineering services for the renovation of the Portsmouth Barracks. The project involves the gut rehabilitation of Rhode Island State Police, Portsmouth Barracks, located at 838 East Main Rd., Portsmouth, Rhode Island. The building is a 4,400 square foot Georgian Revival Style, brick structure, located on 3 acres of land. It was designed by the firm of Jackson, Robertson and Adams Architects and constructed in 1930. It is currently closed to the public, however, there are plans to reopen the building to the public, as an operating barracks by June of 2023. A major goal of the project is to provide a public safety facility that is secure, as well as compliant with ADA regulations, building codes, energy codes and CALEA standards. The purpose of the facility will be to serve the public with dispatch and a statement room, supported by trooper office space and temporary detainee holding. There shall be no cell blocks or overnight holding of detainees. The current building is not ADA compliant, and requires interior spaces, restrooms, front entry sequence (including parking and landscape) and detainee areas redesigned to meet ADA standards. The State of Rhode Island is seeking qualified A/E design firms, with experience in public safety, to provide full architectural, site, civil, landscape, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire suppression, fire alarm and security services. Services shall include construction documents, cost estimates, bidding, construction administration and maintenance planning.
