Specifications include, but are not limited to: Design and Performance Requirements: The trailer attenuator shall be FHWA tested and approved to meet the MASH test level 3 criteria (62.5). The trailer shall have been subject to MASH test 3-50, 3-51, 3-52, 3-53, and occupant ride-down acceleration limits (G’s) must be in the preferred range of FHWA guidelines. The trailer axle shall be designed for highway speeds, heavy-duty torsion suspension type, mid-mounted within the unit. The trailer tires shall be of the proper load range, designed for highway speeds. The trailer must have an anti-rotational system to prevent the Trailer Attenuator from rotating to the side or detaching from the host vehicle in an offset angles impacts, test levels 3-52 and 3-53. The Trailer Attenuator shall be rated for use with a host vehicle of 10,000 pounds or greater. The anti-rotational system shall allow the Trailer attenuator to act like a normal trailer when being towed. Hitch: The Trailer Attenuator shall have a height adjustable hitch and be capable of attaching to and rated for use with the standard NHDOT pintle hook (Holland, model PH-30RP51, 30,000#), pintle height of 26” which includes a ½” thick x 32” wide steel plate. Safety chain shall be included.
