Specifications include, but are not limited to: The PSGAO is seeking an organization to field a community violence intervention specialist who is familiar with street dynamics of youth crews and gangs. This person should be able to help gather information to first understand conflict dynamics and the environment in which conflict exists, control rumors, reduce retaliation, prevent conflict from erupting, communicate nonviolent messages to active crew members, and when possible connect them to positive skill based and mentoring outlets. This specialist must also be familiar with social media and its impact on conflict. The geographic scope seeking to be affected is the urban core of Rhode Island, including Providence, Pawtucket, and Central Falls. The organization sought should be familiar with the violence affecting the urban core of Rhode Island and be actively working to reduce crime. This work is part of the federal Project Safe Neighborhoods Grant. Applicants are encouraged to be familiar with this grant.
