Specifications include, but are not limited to: Capable of operating in fed-batch, continuous perfusion, and non-steady state perfusion, and therefore needs to be capable of transferring sufficient oxygen for sustaining cell densities as high as 120-200x106 vcells/mL (kLa 30-70 h-1 , P/V 10-100 W/m3 ). It needs to be able to run for a prolonged time in continuous perfusion mode (>30 days in productive phase, upwards of 45-60 days). It must be able to maintain sterility for the entire run time, and it must be able to allow for taking small and large sterile samples from the bioreactor as well as full harvest of the contents through a bottom port or dip tube. To ensure sufficient volumetric productivity for DSP operations, the bioreactor must be able to accommodate a 50L working volume.
