Specifications include, but are not limited to: The project consists of the South Central Plant currently produces 6,000 tons of cooling provided by seven (7) water cooled chillers and associated pumps and six (6) cooling towers. These existing equipment along with the existing electrical switchgear will be replaced with new equipment. The Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) equipment will go back in roughly the same place but the electrical switchgear will move to the new penthouse at the northwest corner of the roof. Construction will need to be phased to allow the plant to continue to serve the downtown building loads without any interruption. Once completed the plant will be capable of producing 10,000 tons of cooling. This project will be permitted through the City of Houston and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified once completed.
