Specifications include, but are not limited to: •Fertilization of trees, plants, shrubs, turf, and/or specialty turf-Contractor will submit soil samples through the Penn State agricultural extension service for pH and nutrient levels designated in the publications listed below. Fertilization will follow the recommendations provided by the service. Perform test(s) before the end of August of each calendar year of this contract in order to customize the upcoming season’s applications. When chemical fertilizers are used for any reason, they must be used under the following conditions: •Work to be performed between April 1 and October 15. •All chemical fertilizers must be applied according to the manufacturer’s directors and all Commonwealth of Pennsylvania rules and regulations applicable. •Proper signage, if applicable, must be adequately posted to inform the public. •Chemical fertilizers selected should have a short life and low toxicity ratings to ensure public safety. •The contractor will be responsible for any damage to plant materials, turf, trees, etc. resulting from the improper and/or unauthorized use of chemical fertilizers. •Deep Root Fertilization-Injection of fertilization into the tree pit soil eight inches (8") to twelve inches (12") below the soil surface. •Hand Watering-Water trees, planters, and beds with a hose to ensure the health of the plant material. Frequency of watering may be dictated by weather conditions, however it should be performed at least once per week April through September and bi-weekly October through the end of the season.
