Specifications include, but are not limited to: This Specification outlines the requirements to furnish and deliver windshield washing solution for use in the windshield washing mechanisms of various Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT) vehicles; The windshield washing solution is to be sprayed onto the surface of the windshield of a moving vehicle, for the purpose of removing road dirt, insects and bird droppings with the help of the windshield wiper blades, and to clear the windshield of snow, ice and salt from road spray during cold weather conditions. The windshield washer solution shall conform to the following requirements: 2.1 Washer solvent shall be provided in the diluted state and the solution will be used unadulterated as delivered. 2.2 The windshield washing solution shall not freeze upon the glass surface at a temperature of -20ºF. 2.3 The diluted solution shall be no less than 33% methanol by weight, no less than 38% methanol by volume and no more than 40% methanol by volume. 2.4 The solution shall have no adverse effect on painted surfaces, rubber moldings or plastic. 2.5 The solution shall not leave any streaking on the glass surface when removed. The solution shall not cause distorted vision due to sunlight or oncoming vehicle headlights when the solution has been removed from the glass surface. 2.6 The windshield washing solution shall be provided and delivered in fifty-five (55) gallon, non-returnable, plastic drums. 2.7 The appearance of the solution shall be a clear blue liquid.
