Please note: This is a Sole Source Notification. The Department of Counseling and Psychological Services at East Stroudsburg University was awarded the Garret Lee Smith Suicide Prevention grant through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The objectives of the proposed project are threefold: to increase the identification of students at risk for suicide and suicide attempts; to reduce risk factors and increase protective factors; and to increase help-seeking behaviors. The National Council for Mental Wellbeing (NCMW) provides a Mental Health First Aid Program (MHFA), which is a skillsbased training course that teaches participants about mental health and substance-use issues. Just as CPR training helps a person without medical training assist an individual following a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid training helps a person assist someone experiencing a mental health crisis. The MHFA instructor training is a four-day course that certifies each attendee in MHFA in addition to certifying each as a MHFA instructor. The NCMW is the sole entity providing national MHFA materials and instructor training in the United States. MHFA Program materials include but are not limited to: manuals, curriculum products, consultation and training, as well as ancillary products.
