The Historic Streets Center City East Project is a roadway restoration of five historical streets in Washington Square West. Over time the roadway has settled causing an uneven roadway surface. The uneven roadway surface has been shown to cause ponding of water that cannot drain and has the potential to damage the underside of vehicles. The scope of work for this project will include resetting the granite blocks (including filling gaps of missing blocks) and granite gutter slabs, full-depth reconstruction of the subbase and base as needed, and/or renewing the mortar joints between granite blocks. There will also be spot repairs to the granite curbs, and sidewalks where feasible within the project budget. The project includes the following streets: • Irving Street – From Quince Street to Jessup Street • Quince Street – From Spruce Street to Locust Street • Manning Street – From 10th Street to Hutchinson Street • Hutchinson Street – From Spruce Street to Locust Street • Bonaparte Court – From Hutchinson Street to 9th Street Most construction efforts are focused on Quince and Hutchinson Streets. The work at Quince Street will include granite block resetting, full-depth reconstruction, granite gutter slab resetting, granite curb resetting, and mortar joint repairs. Hutchinson Street will include granite block resetting, full-depth reconstruction, sidewalk repair, granite curb resetting, and mortar joint repairs. Irving Street will be limited to granite block resetting and mortar joint repairs. Manning Street and Bonaparte Court will be limited to mortar joint repairs.
