Specifications include, but are not limited to:The Department of Transportation Services is seeking proposals from paraprofessional staffing companies that are willing and able to provide up to 900 bus attendants that will serve in school buses and school vehicles operated by the Department’s school bus and school vehicle vendors. General Bus Attendant, 1:1 Bus Attendant, and School Bus Climate Control Monitor are three positions required through this contract. The awarded vendor will be required to source approximately 400 bus attendants and the company will need to provide up to 900 bus attendants by the beginning of the 3 rd year of the contract. Works to be Provided: Regular school year and Extended Summer Program (ESY) are two major programs that require bus attendants. Most schools have 180 school days in their regular school year. Regular school year runs between Mid-August through Mid-June and Transportation operates approximately 1,750 routes to provide transportation services during the regular school year. ESY general runs between Mid-June through Mid-August. Historically, 900 vendor provided bus attendants are required during the regular school year and 475 vendor provided bus attendants are required during the ESY program. The Department of Transportation Services is seeking four different types of bus attendants. General Bus Attendant is assigned to a special education bus. 1:1 Bus Attendant is assigned to a specific child on a bus. Substitute Bus Attendants provides cover assignments created by planned and unexpected Bus Attendant absenteeism." School Bus Climate Control Monitor is not assigned to a specific bus, but will be dispatched to school buses that report student behavior issues to support driver on bus. Job description of each position is listed in Appendix K. The awarded company must communicate closely with the District’s Bus Attendant Supervisor, Scheduling Analysts and various other personnel from the Department of Transportation Services and the Office of Specialized Services. General Bus Attendant and 1:1 Bus Attendant will ride assigned route both the morning and afternoon run. The morning route typically runs between 5:30 and 9:00 and the afternoon route typically runs between 1:30 and 5:30. Average total ride time is 3 hours a day. Current Bus Attendant assignment by vendor is available by request. Each employee will be given at least 4 days a day and additional hours will be paid based on actual time worked. The awarded company must provide various managerial reports available to the Department of Transportation Services.
