The intent of this project is to expand and enhance the forested riparian buffer for improved function to reduce nitrogen, phosphorous, and sediment discharge to the stream. Forest buffers can trap, filter, and convert up to 25% of Total Nitrogen, 50% of Total Phosphorus, and 50% of Sediment, as consistent with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s (PADEP) BMP Effectiveness Values Table. In addition to pollutant discharge reduction, this project also aims to improve native vegetation that will stabilize the banks, prepare a forested buffer operation and maintenance plan for long-term function of the buffer and relocated the trail to a location outside of the sensitive forested buffer. The project will require relocation of a portion of the existing walking trail in the Park.
