Specifications include, but are not limited to: This Specification outlines the requirements to furnish and deliver bagged rock salt to Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT). Rock salt shall be guaranteed to meet the minimum specifications for sodium chloride as Type 1, Grade 1, as established by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and the American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM). 2.1 Rock salt shall be guaranteed to meet screen specifications as established by AASHTO and ASTM. 2.2. Rock salt shall be treated with .0050% Prussiate of Soda or equal to prevent excessive hardening of the storage pile. 2.3 Salt shall be shipped in 50-pound bags as requested by PRT. 2.4 Bagged salt shall be bagged in polyethylene bags. Only DRY salt shall be accepted by PRT. 2.5 All bag shipments shall be loaded on non-returnable pallets, 40 to 50 bags to a pallet, and shrink wrapped for ease of unloading by forklift. 2.6 The shrink wrap for all pallets shall be labeled with a number denoting the number of bags that are palletized (for example, 40 or 50).
