DESCRIPTION – This work consists of the Contractor posting the street, and removing vehicles as required to obtain access to the site. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS – (a) Tow Trucks. Provide tow trucks licensed by the Department of Licenses and Inspections. PROCEDURES – (a) Posting. 1. Call Traffic Engineering for permission to post the signs on specific streets at least 48 hours prior to need for daytime street work. 2. Post signs show the dates and hours the Contractor is working 24 hours prior to commencement of work. Exercise care in not overstating dates and hours to be worked. 3. Traffic Engineering notifies respective Police Inspector in whose district the signs have been posted. 4. District Police verify that signs have been posted and follow Police Directive No. 116 "Temporary Stopping Signs". 5. Take responsibility for the removal of signs at any location where work has been completed. Remove all signs at the end of the posted time limit. If additional work is required beyond the posted dates, change signs to reflect the new dates and times. Take responsibility for changing in a timely manner the dates and/or times on posted signs if for any reason work are not performed as stated. If any changes are required, notify Traffic Engineering, the Police Inspector and Police Tow Squad. 6. Call Police, Traffic Unit (215-685-1554) a minimum of 72 hours in advance to schedule a tow truck to be available on the day of work. (b) Towing. 1. Take responsibility for providing all tow trucks required to clear the streets for this operation. 2. Submit copies of Licenses and Inspections Towing Permits for all trucks to be used under this item to the Engineer prior to starting work. 3. The Licensed Tow Truck driver, within the general purview of the Police Department, relocate any illegally parked vehicles. 4. The Licensed Tow Truck Driver keeps a list of all relocated vehicles showing the following information: a. Vehicle license number b. Vehicle make and color c. Location vehicle was parked d. Location vehicle was relocated to 5. Supply a written copy of the above information to "Police District Operations Room Supervisor" and to the Project Engineer, in Compliance with Police Department Directive 116 (3-15-85) Section I.B.2.b., for his use in vehicle retrieval purposes. 6. Take responsibility for supervision and coordination of the Tow Truck Operations. The Contractor and/or the Owner/Operator of the Licensed Tow Truck agrees to indemnify,defend and save harmless, the City, all its officers and subordinates from all suits and actions as a result of towing any vehicles.
