The purpose of the Gray Whale Haws Project is to establish the infrastructure necessary to support a sustainable, “forest and waters to Tribal table” food system. The facility will strengthen the Tribe’s food sovereignty and food security initiatives by providing reliable capacity to harvest, process, preserve, and equitably distribute traditional foods. Specifically, the project will: • Provide a centralized, sanitary, and efficient facility for processing traditional food resources at community scale. • Ensure compliance with all Tribal, federal, and industry health and safety standards for handling, packaging, and storage. • Incorporate scalable processing systems to support both current harvest volumes and projected five-year growth targets. • Integrate with adjacent cultural and community facilities to maximize operational efficiency and reinforce cultural education opportunities. • Support long-term Tribal goals for nutrition, subsistence, cultural revitalization, and overall food sovereignty. The Project is not only a processing facility but also a cornerstone of the Tribe’s commitment to cultural survival, food security, and community well-being for generations to come.
