Specifications include, but are not limited to: The goal of this survey is to use random sampling methodology in estimating mule deer populations in Oregon, referred to as SightRat. Winter range landscapes are stratified geographically into 3 or more categories representing relative deer densities on the landscape. Weighted random selection of sample units within those strata is used to identify flight units for sampling. Deer count data is extrapolated from the sample units to all unsampled units within the strata categories to provide a deer population estimate for the overall analysis area. This project will be conducted in Baker, Malheur, and Union counties. SightRat surveys are conducted once every 3 years for selected units within a broader geographical area.
