Amtrak seeks a contractor perform the following tasks. Reference bid package. Remove existing asphalt Crossings, south end Portland Union Station tracks 3 and 4. Salvage rubber flangeway for reuse if practical Track 3 south of crossing to switch. Remove curve worn and jointed rail from joint(s) on north of end of crossing south to switch. Salvage Insulated joints for reuse at existing location(s) Maintain Insulated joints with associated rail in existing locations - cut and prep rail for welding as appropriate. Maintain existing UPRR standards for insulated joint installation. Existing location of insulated joints to remain in place, reuse insulated joint rail section(s) Remove ties & ballast 15 inches below existing grade – north of crossing - south to last long tie at switch. 10’+ width minimum section of ballast removed Dispose of ties and ballast north of Crossing south to last long tie at switch Concrete tie renewal - 100% estimated 255 track feet – estimate 128 concrete ties on 2-foot centers – contractor responsible to field verify distance and quantities. Use Pandrol fast clips or Amtrak approved equivalent Install new 136 lb rail, supplied by Amtrak – eliminate joints from north track pans - south to last long tie at switch. Flash butt weld joints wherever possible Thermite weld any remaining joints - minimize thermite welds Eliminate all joints north of crossing south to last long tie at switch Install new ballast. Raise, line and surface track. Anchor/clip rail. Set CWR rail section to Rail neutral temperature of 100 degrees F - per Amtrak’s CWR Manual titled ‘Procedures for the Installation, Adjustment, and Inspection of CWR as Required by 49 CFR 213.118’ Track 4 south of crossing to switch. Set CWR rail section to Rail neutral temperature of 100 degrees F - per Amtrak’s CWR Manual titled ‘Procedures for the Installation, Adjustment, and Inspection of CWR as Required by 49 CFR 213.118’ Weld rail into two usable strings – Flash butt referred. Strings to be equal length – approximate – not exact. Eliminate defective rail sections at joint. At grade crossing south end Install rubber flangeway(s) Repave crossings, asphalt. Remove, grind, adjust and repave platform and or track elevations as necessary to avoid any steep ramping of vehicle grades in excess of 2 %. Adjust and repave platform and or track elevations as necessary - no rail grades more than 0.5 %. at crossings Remove, dispose, and replace ballast 6 inches below bottom of ties wherever rail is removed and or replaced. Use Amtrak approved ballast to replace any removed ballast.
