Specifications include, but are not limited to: A. Provide RSO services required under applicable federal regulations and Oregon statutes for institutions holding a Broad Scope C specific license to include: i. Ensure that radioactive materials possessed under the license conform to the materials listed on the license ii. Make certain that licensed radioactive materials are used only by individuals authorized by the license iii. Verify that all authorized users wear required personnel monitoring equipment iv. Review all personnel monitoring reports: a. Alert faculty, student or staff if there is a high or unusual exposure b. Make notifications if there is a high or unusual exposure c. Investigate all unusual exposures d. Take corrective action to prevent other high or unusual exposures v. Establish that licensed radioactive materials are properly secured against unauthorized removal when they are not in use vi. Serve as a point of contact with university administration a. Give assistance in case of an emergency b. Notify proper authorities in case of accident or damage to gauges vii. Make certain that the terms and conditions of the license are met a. Perform periodic leak tests of sealed sources b. Review and organize records (e.g., personnel exposure records and leak test records) periodically to assure compliance with the rules and license conditions B. Name assigned Medical or Health Physicist on state and/or NRC Radioactive Materials License (RAML) C. Conduct quarterly on-site Nuclear Medicine/Positron Emission Tomography (PET) audits, which must include a general review of the Radiation Safety Program (RSP) and site assessment of “hot lab” to support regulatory compliance and the health, safety and welfare of faculty, staff, and students. D. Participate and engage in all state and/or NRC regulatory inspections E. Provide ongoing 24/7/365 availability for technical and regulatory support to the Executive Director – Resilience, Emergency Management and Safety, Assistant Director – Environmental Health and Safety, the Assistant Radiation Safety Officer and the Chair of the Radiation Safety Committee as requested. Maintain ability to respond to campus if a radiation related incident were to occur
