Specifications include, but are not limited to: KEC’s cooling system is operating at minimal capacity with no backup systems in place. It is critical that a temporary solution be put in place to provide reliability to Kelley Engineering Center and a new, reliable solution be implemented. It is anticipated this Project will be completed in three (3) phases. Phase 1 will allow for a temporary solution to serve the needs of KEC. Phase 2 will be the implementation of the utility plant equipment into the basement of KEC as well as additional piping to the future Collaborative Innovation Complex (CIC) project. Phase 3 will include the addition of a heat recovery chiller plant. Further details about each phase are provided in the following paragraphs. For Phase 1, the new temporary chiller will be located outside of KEC on the north side of the building on top of the basement mechanical relief air well. The unit will be 60 tons with the ability to serve winter cooling loads. This unit should be operational for the 2023 cooling season. Specifications for this unit are provided in Exhibit 4. After completion of phase 3 this unit will be returned to facilities for implementation on other projects. Procurement of this chiller will be the foremost priority to eliminate delays for lead time. An Early Work Amendment (EWA) is anticipated during preconstruction for the procurement of this unit. Phase 1 work will also include chiller demo and removal, new piping and controls equipment to operate the new temporary chiller, electrical and mechanical demo, and connections as needed. The schematic design report from Systems West Engineers in Exhibit 3 contains the specifics on phase 1 and general outlines for phase 2 and 3. While on site, the CM/GC may be asked for proposal requests for additional items for building system operations and system renewal scopes that the OSU project team identifies as critical to the building. This system is intended to be connected to the CIC project in the next two years. Final connections to the CIC are not included in this Project.
