Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Oregon Department of Fish and Wilife's Marine Resources Program is currently soliciting bids to hire a Contractor to provide technical assistance to the Department for conducting biological research on ocean shrimp (Pandalus jordani) and eulachon (Thaleichthys pacificus). The purpose of the research is to gather video data on the behavior of eulachon (smelt) as they are excluded from a shrimp trawl and as they interact with a shrimp bycatch reduction device (BRD). The success of this research project depends upon the contractor's knowledge of how to fish for shrimp and eulachon smelt, as well as knowledge of how to conduct safe, effective and efficient fishing operations. The Contractor must provide a skipper and crew that have knowledge of safe vessel operation, location of shrimp and eulachon concentrations, appropriate use and deployment of fishing gear, fishing safety and knowledge of weather considerations. The Department will not control the means or manner of the operation of the vessel, with the exception of specifying the BRDs to be fished, but will rely on the skills, knowledge and guidance of the skipper and crew.
