MHCC’s Construction Pathway for English Language Learners (CPELL) is seeking a Construction expert to train English language learner pre-apprenticeship participants in basic construction skills necessary to enter a registered trades apprenticeship program and do commercial and residential construction. The carpentry consultant will participate in and provide subject-matter expertise for training program planning and implementation, work with CPELL instructors to draft formal curriculum modules, and engage and develop local construction industry RAP and employer partnerships. The carpentry trainer will provide class instruction, hands-on training activities, certification trainings and orientations, use and modify the Career Connections and CPELL curriculum, and contribute to the overall program training as needed to meet trainee and program needs. A successful candidate will have local, East-Multnomah County and Portland-area experience and leadership in the construction training industry, a passion for advancing opportunities for English language learners, extensive knowledge of Career Connections construction curriculum, OSHA trainer certification, and experience with pre-RAP and RAP program development and continuous improvement. The candidate must be able to educate, motivate, and inspire trainees who are English Language Learners.
