Specifications include, but are not limited to: Communication Facilitators are specially trained professionals that provide effective, distance communication access for DeafBlind individuals, who communicate using Sign Language through tactile or close vision methods, to make and receive live (1) video to video and (2) Video Relay Service calls, made possible by the advent of broadband internet access service, regardless of equipment type, platform or online software used. The Communication Facilitator provides the service in either the DeafBlind person’s residence or predetermined site. The Communication Facilitator (1) relays or mirrors verbatim the signs of the caller or person (or Video Relay Service interpreter) to whom the DeafBlind individual called on the video screen, using the DeafBlind person’s preferred method of communication or (2) translates to ProTactile Language. In addition, the Communication Facilitator simultaneously conveys on-screen environmental or visual information, e.g., child running in background, etc. depending on the DeafBlind person’s communication preferences. The DeafBlind individual then responds directly to the caller or person on the video screen. The Communication Facilitator may also relay or mirror verbatim or translate to ProTactile Language the signs of the caller or person who left a video mail message for the DeafBlind individual.
