All Bidders guarantee the canine they propose to furnish shall be in overall good health. Areas of specific health concern are hips, heart, lungs, teeth, eyesight and both testicles presently down and visible. The canine must be free of genetic defects for a period of one year from date of pick-up. Bidders must supply current, properly marked x-rays prior to acceptance. The x-ray packet must contain the veterinarian’s name, the animal’s name and registration number if available, along with the date of examination. ACCEPTANCE: The City retains the right to refuse any canine which does not meet the below listed requirements, or which fails to pass the tests listed below. 1. Dual purpose – Dogs that can be trained for both patrol and detection work. 2. Green – Dogs that have been tested for police work but are not yet trained. 3. Pure bred, European imported, German Shepherd or Belgian Malinois. 4. Male sex 5. Twelve to Twenty-four months old 6. Minimum weight of 65lbs 7. Minimum height of 23 inches at the shoulder 8. Sociable around people, and non-aggressive toward other dogs. 9. Meet all other Specifications of the IFB. 10. 3-year replacement warranty for hips and elbows 11. 60-day replacement warranty for any performance issues 12. 30-day replacement warranty for any congenital defects 13. 72-hour replacement warranty from time of possession for a general Veterinary physical exam (correct size and weight for breed, both testicles dropped and visible, no broken or chipped teeth) The TPD K9 Officers will conduct tests at the time of visit for evaluation unless otherwise stated. The decision of the TPD K9 Officers as to the canine’s ability to pass the listed tests is final. TESTS: 1. Ability to pass a basic courage test 2. Must possess a high fetch drive 3. Must not have a fear of slick floors, stairs or darkened areas 4. Not afraid of gunfire or other loud noises 5. No motion sickness problems 6. Must pass a complete physical to be conducted by the Tulsa Police Department’s staff veterinarian 7. The dog will be evaluated for a maximum of 3 months following the initial evaluation to determine workability.
