Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1. Primary Sludge Degrit Building (Area 35) The Primary Sludge Degrit Building is a single-story with structural steel framing, concrete roof slab on steel beams and precast concrete facade panels that houses primary sludge degritting equipment and grit dumpsters. Tunnel No. 4 is located on the north side of the building in the basement. Primary sludge from settling tanks Nos. 1-10 and 11-18 and Easterly sludge is pumped to the building. Primary sludge is pumped to one of four distribution boxes where sludge flows into the cyclone separators. From the cyclone separators the sludge flows into a launder and then into the grit classifiers. Grit removed from the cyclone separators is discharged to dumpsters and hauled offsite for disposal. Channel blowers are located in the basement level. 2. VCU & Thermal Conditioning Building (Area 39) The VCU & Thermal Conditioning Building is a single-story with CMU masonry walls, concrete structures, structural steel framing, and precast concrete facade panels that houses an influent sludge wet well located on the east side of the thermal conditioning building, process equipment, heat exchangers, vapor combustion units, wet scrubbers and electrical equipment. Sludge is thermally conditioned to release water from the organic cells and improve the dewatering process. Process equipment is also located in the basement level. One (1) 7-ton crane is located in the Compressor Room. Two (2) 5-ton cranes are located in the Receiving Area. A wooden pole barn structure with exhaust stacks is attached to the east side of the building. Substation USS-8 is located outside at the southwest exterior corner of the VCU & Thermal Conditioning Building. The southern portion of the VCU & Thermal Conditioning Building is to remain. This portion of the building houses the District’s Training Center. The north wall of the Training Center Building will need to be reconstructed to match the existing exterior façade.
