The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), through the Division of Parks and Watercraft, is responsible for the management of Ohio State Parks where park visitors have a wide range of opportunities for overnight experiences at such locations as Great Ohio Lodges, State Park Campgrounds, and State Park Cabins. The intent of this project is to expand those overnight opportunities to include elevated “treehouse” cabins and camping platforms with connecting walkways and overlooks along the scenic Maumee River at Mary Jane Thurston State Park. The selected firm will begin by conducting a planning study which will include an evaluation of site conditions and environmental impacts, an investigation of existing woodland growth and tree species to optimize locations within the canopy and viewshed and available utilities connections, and an analysis of the number of cabins and elevated camping platforms that can be accommodated within the site and available funding. At the conclusion of the planning study, the selected firm will provide design and construction administration services to complete the associated scope of work. Interested firms should demonstrate their ability to assist ODNR in maximizing the visitor experience through design elements, including but not limited to, the approach to the structure, placement in the setting, incorporated views, design aesthetics, connectivity to nature, and private versus public spaces, all while providing modern, comfortable accommodations for Park guests.
