Specifications include, but are not limited to: reconstruct and expand the existing acid mine drainage (AMD) treatment system, which was completed August 2002. The existing treatment system consists of a mine water interceptor, an anoxic limestone drain (ALD), and three surface water cells that assist in the oxidation, precipitation, and storage of iron sludge. The existing mine water interceptor shall be reworked, the existing treatment system shall be demolished, and the iron sludge disposed in constructed pits. Existing rock line channels shall be removed. A woodlot will be cleared and grubbed for preparation of the expanded system's footprint. The proposed treatment system shall consist of an expanded ALD with bypass piping from the existing mine water interceptor, an iron settling pond, and a finishing basin. An existing impoundment's outlet channel shall be rerouted through the project site.
