Specifications include, but are not limited to: Renovate Campbell Hall, an existing academic building located at 1787 Neil Avenue on The Ohio State University’s Columbus Campus. The original three story, 95,941 SF building was constructed in 1916. A 19,427 SF addition included expansion of all three stories and creation of a basement level in 1993. Campbell currently contains a 200+ seat auditorium, classrooms, wet and dry teaching & research laboratories, computer labs, offices, lounges, student service & collaboration areas. Additionally, Campbell Hall houses the Faculty Innovation Center and the Historic Costume and Textile Collection. The project will address known deferred maintenance issues, including both the building enclosure (roof, windows, masonry, etc) and interior environment (building systems, etc). Hazardous materials abatement will also be required. The primary purpose of the renovation is to provide a transformative and modernized home for the College of Education and Human Ecology (EHE). EHE is currently spread across multiple facilities on the Columbus Campus, and one goal of this project is to bring together faculty, staff, and students from across the College into Campbell. Additional priorities for EHE include: • Renovate, innovate, and expand the existing wet and dry teaching & research laboratories, including creating a new state-of-the-art teaching & research kitchen. • Develop a common area to accommodate large college-wide events of at least 250 people; When not utilized by the College, this area would also provide students a space to collaborate, connect, and study together. • Develop state-of-the-art office and classroom space that includes the capacity for concurrent in-person and virtual engagement of faculty, staff, and students to maximize the capacity of the space to engage our community. • Explore and potentially develop a plan to capture the existing ground level service area, converting it to finished interior space, if the budget can accommodate it. • Explore the possibility of a café and/or apparel retail space to align with degree programs housed in Campbell Hall and to serve the College and University community.
