The City of Cincinnati (City) owns and operates its own fiber optic network. The network includes approximately 100 miles of fiber cable, and 10 miles of copper cable. The majority of network is installed in the Cincinnati Bell Telephone (CBT also known as altafiber) conduit system. Small portions of it have been installed on CBT and Duke Energy utility poles. The Cincinnati Bell conduit system is very old (100 years + in some cases) and is often difficult to get pulls ropes and cable through. This contract will provide for the installation, repair, splicing, termination, and removal of fiber optic and copper cabling in the public right-of-way or other locations as required, including aerial and underground systems. This contract will also allow the city to obtain the installation of underground conduit and / or direct boring.
