This project will construct a Shared Campus Entrance between the existing Fire Marshall Complex and the existing Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) Campus with a new traffic light, new directional signals, and modified turn lanes on U.S. Route 40. This will require input from stakeholders including ODA, the State Fire Marshal Training Academy staff and the City of Reynoldsburg. The goals of the design include safety for both employees and visitors, creating a grand entry for both State Departments, Site Security with a new guard shack to control entry to both respective agency sites, and to eliminate other entries into each agency site as determined necessary. The exact location of the shared entry drive will need to be determined during the programming phase. Particular attention will be needed as it relates to different vehicular traffic entering and exiting the site. Specifically, it will include emergency responder equipment, public vehicles, large delivery trucks, biohazard containment delivery vehicles and box trucks. Also to be considered will be future master planning for the ODA and the State Fire Marshall site, the required vehicle stacking distance at this new shared entry, the construction schedule timelines for a new traffic light with directional signals on U.S. 40 at this new shared entry, and the impact of this new entry related to paving, both on site and the anticipated modifications to U.S. 40. Site storm water design and retention will be a part of the planning factors to be included. Unifying card and badge reader systems will be a part of the planning criteria to be included. The number of controlled access gates will be a part of the planning criteria to be considered.
