Specifications include, but are not limited to: A. CONTRACTOR shall furnish all labor, materials, equipment and incidentals required to remove and dispose of all existing media from Filter 3A. Media consists of approximately 8 inches of gravel, overlain by 3 inches of torpedo sand, topped with 24 inches of sand. B. CONTRACTOR shall coordinate and be responsible for procedures and methods used to remove the existing media and underdrains in the filters as shown and specified. C. Surface wash sweeps, four in each cell (8 total), will be removed before removal of the filter media. Once the sweeps are removed, they will be stored within the filter building for future reuse. D. Media shall be removed by vacuum truck and disposed of offsite. It is assumed significant cementation of the media has not occurred and media can be removed via vacuum removal. Complete removal of the media is required in each filter. Any deviations from this method must be approved by the OWNER. E. The media shall be removed in layers starting from the top. The CONTRACTOR will not be allowed to start from one side of the filter and work towards the other as this allows sand to fall down into the underdrain system. F. CONTRACTOR shall protect existing filter components from damage during media removal. G. Media removal shall be accomplished so as to prevent media from entering filter underdrains and plenum.
