Miami University is seeking Architectural and Engineering services to design a new multi-use sports field for its Oxford Campus to replace Cook Field. Currently, Miami University students and local community members utilize Cook Field, an eleven-acre, natural and artificial grass surfaced multi-use recreation field. Cook Field is located on the northeast corner of State Route 73 and Patterson Avenue. As the only lighted recreation field on campus, it has been a popular option for Miami University students and community members. It is used primarily for Intramural Sports such as Softball, Flag Football, and Ultimate Frisbee. Other than Intramural use, the field is available for rental to all other groups. Many student organizations conduct special events such as Greek Week, First Year Institute Carnival, Relay for Life and many more. There are 4 softball fields that are newly renovated and updated. The Cook Field site has been identified as the preferred location for new development. The investigations and evaluations to be performed by the selected AE, and described below, will be used to set the schedule of the new multipurpose sports field. The selected AE will investigate multiple sites and propose multiple options, providing distributed and consolidated replacement solutions. The AE will investigate adjacencies to existing or new parking, restroom facilities, and storage with the option for concessions. Additionally, the AE will provide field surface evaluations and analysis, exploring multiple options for the installation of natural grass and artificial turf playing surfaces. The design of energy-efficient electrical and lighting systems as required by code and athletic field design standards for public areas and fields. Permanent and temporary solutions for field equipment such as backstops and soccer goals, running surface, etc. should be considered.
