Specifications include, but are not limited to: Design 1.1 General The manhole insert must fit between the manhole casting and lid of the attached MSDGC Standard Drawing 49005. The finished thickness of the manhole insert shall be uniform and 0.125”. The overall diameter of the insert shall be 23.75”. To allow for older style ribbed lids, the depth shall be approximately 5.5” from manhole rim to bottom of the insert. The center of the manhole insert shall have a round hole punched or drilled to a diameter of 0.8125”. There shall be 4 additional 0.8125” diameter round holes centered over the bolt holes shown in the standard drawing provided in the link. Any and all burrs or sharp edges shall be removed from the product. The inserts shall be stackable for convenient storage. There are two styles of Manhole Inserts being requested; the Odor Control Insert and the Float Level Indicator Insert. 1.2 Physical Properties The manhole insert shall be made of high density polyethylene (HDPE) or equal to be approved by the City. Requests for approved equal determination must be made in accordance with the substitution requirements as described above under the section titled “Or Approved Equal”. The material shall be flexible, impact, crack and corrosion resistant, able to withstand temperature ranges of -50 to 150 degrees Fahrenheit and UV resistant. 1.3 Odor Control Insert This style of insert shall require no additional modifications from the design specified in 1.1 General. 1.4 Float Level Indicator Insert This style of insert shall require additional openings in the bottom of the manhole insert specified in 1.1 General for inspection and additional ventilation. A drawing is provided demonstrating the desired viewing port orientation and sizing (Attachment 1).
