Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Featherstone Shaft project is located in Athens County, Rome Township, Section 18. ODNR Division of Geological Survey records indicate that an associated mapped underground coal mine is located at this location. It was known as the Federal Domestic Coal Company, No. 18 Mine (OGS #AS-98). The Pittsburgh No. 8 seam was mined until 1915. A vertical opening exists south of Big Run and east of Featherstone Road. It appears that the shaft has settled over time and measures approximately 17 feet by 20 feet at the top and 17 feet deep creating a fall hazard. This project will close the shaft utilizing a Polyurethane Foam Fill (PUF) solution. Site access shall be from Featherstone Rd. via the driveway located at 11400 Featherstone Rd, Stewart, OH 45778. The access road is approximately 800 feet in length and will need to be reseeded at the end of the project
