Light Sewer Cleaning Light Sewer Cleaning may be administered for sewers containing debris, gravel, mud, sticks, and other types of loose materials within the sewer pipe. This will require a couple of passes of a hydraulic flusher to remove all loose materials, including those which may have washed up into service connections or MH bench walls, and collect them for removal in the downstream MH. This pay item does not include any root cutting, deposit removal, or grinding of intruding break-in connections. Pay Items 2.1.1 and 2.1.2 shall be utilized to compensate for this type of work. Root Cut & Chemical Root Treatment Root cutting may be performed for sewers containing roots which may cause obstructions in the sewer. This will be paid according to the unit rates listed in the pricing sheet. This work shall be paid under Item numbers 2.2.1 and 2.2.2. The contractor shall assume full responsibility for ensuring the safety and integrity of the sewer pipe. This will require the use of robotic inspection equipment to monitor the work progress and ensure that the sewer and all storm sewer lateral connections are undamaged by the root cutting process. The contractor shall repair any sewer pipe damaged in this fashion via point repair, point lining or other method approved by the SMU PM. Repairs will be performed by a SMU-approved sewer repair contractor and approved repair method at no additional cost to SMU. Grinding Protruding Break-In Service Connections Grinding of protruding break-in service connections from the main sewer line may need to be performed under this contract. The contractor shall contact the SMU PM for approval to conduct this type of maintenance and must provide an image of each protruding tap before approval. Pay items 2.3.1 and 2.3.2 shall be used for compensation for this type of work.
