ODNR is seeking a qualified archaeological consulting firm to conduct a geophysical survey using non-invasive methods such as LIDAR and/or Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) at Great Council State Park. The objective is to locate and document potential archaeological features associated with the historic Shawnee settlement and provide a final report that outlines findings and recommends areas for future investigation. The selected contractor shall: 1) Conduct a geophysical survey using appropriate non-invasive technologies (e.g., GPR, LIDAR, magnetometry). 2) Survey the designated project area, estimated at approximately 10–12 acres, with particular attention to features that may be culturally significant (e.g., foundations, hearths, refuse pits, or other remnants). 3) Coordinate with ODNR Cultural Resources staff to ensure the survey design complies with applicable professional archaeological standards. 4) Offer hands on training in non-invasive archaeological techniques, and fieldwork experience, to Indigenous student interns from the three federally recognized Shawnee nations of Oklahoma. (These interns will be arranged by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources) 5) Analyze and interpret data using professional geospatial and archaeological methodologies. 6) Deliver a comprehensive report that includes: a) Maps and annotated data overlays showing areas of potential archaeological interest. b) Interpretation of findings with context to the Shawnee occupation and land use. c) Recommendations for future archaeological work or preservation actions. 7) Comply with all applicable state and federal laws governing archaeological work on public lands. 8) Secure and protect all field data and ensure proper data handling for sensitive cultural information.
