The intent of this project is to provide construction services to the City of Shaker Heights for the catch basin repair line items shown in the bid form for one calendar (1) year 2026 with the City of Shaker Heights having the option to renew for two (2) additional years 2027 & 2028 from the Issuance of the Notice to Proceed. This is a requirements contract for a 12-month period beginning upon award and the execution of the contract and shall be awarded to the lowest and best bidder. This is a requirements contract, as such the quantities listed herein are approximate. The work generally consists of pavement repairs (concrete and/or full depth asphalt) encapsulating the catch basin in a box out around the casting. This work includes excavation around existing casting and replacing the casting with a domestic steel frame and grate, furnish and install ODOT 304 premium backfill as required after subgrade compaction, installation of new pavement to match the existing thickness and composition, installation of new concrete curbs if damaged or removed during repair and replacement of the curb underdrains as required if they were also removed. The City of Shaker Heights will group a minimum of 20 castings together to be repaired before requiring the contractor to come out. 13 DRAINAGE The Contractor shall provide and maintain ample means and devices with which to promptly remove and properly dispose of all water entering the construction site when construction is in process and shall keep said site dry until the construction is completed. Construction Staking All horizontal and vertical control required for the complete layout and performance of the work under this Contract shall be performed by the Contractor at his expense. Maintaining Traffic The Contractor shall be required to work diligently and quickly in order to minimize interferences with traffic, both pedestrian and vehicular. The work shall be scheduled and performed so that no area of the municipality will be isolated from service by emergency vehicles at any time. The Contractor shall furnish sufficient traffic control devices including traffic cones, barricades, warning signs and lights to safely direct and control traffic. Adequate advance warning signs shall be erected in accordance with ODOT Item 614. In addition, the Contractor shall provide uniformed flagmen when needed to assist the flow of traffic or for safe maneuvering of equipment and trucks used for work under this contract. Also, lights and flashing arrow boards will be required on main thoroughfares as directed by the City. All maintenance of traffic activities will be in compliance with the Ohio Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (OMUTCD). It shall be required, under this contract that all excavated openings at driveways shall be bridged, decked, and safely maintained to provide access during non-working hours in a manner satisfactory to the City. The Contractor shall indemnify and save harmless the City from any expense whatsoever due to his operations over or along public or private property. The City of Shaker Heights Police, Fire, and Public Works Department shall be notified by the Contractor at least two (2) workdays prior to the actual closing of a section of roadway.
