Location, Dimensions, and Site Preparation The mural will be painted on the front window glass of City Hall facing N Main Street. The glass is under a roof cover and protected from rain and weather but open to the air. Total dimensions of the space to be painted are 48 ft. W by 9 ft. H consisting of nine 8 ft W x 9 ft. H windowpanes in two groups of four with a doorway in the middle. Murals do not need to cover the full height. The glass surfaces may require preparation, including cleaning. The mural should cover no more than 40% of the window glazing in order to permit continued passage of light through the window while the mural is in place. The mural may not block, cover, obscure, or otherwise obstruct any pre-existing signage. Design and Painting The successful artists will be solely responsible for the concept and final design of the mural subject to approval by the City. Designs are encouraged to include key events, figures, or cultural touchstones related to the North Canton community. Designs may not include profanity, or sexual, religious, or partisan political content. The design should be engaging, aesthetically pleasing, and suitable for a highly visible publicly owned space. The City is seeking murals that will be pleasing to look at in a high traffic area, and that will provide photo opportunities for visitors. The mural must be created using high-quality, but removable glass paints to ensure longevity for the duration of the season but enable removal when the season has ended. The mural is intended to be temporary and will be removed by City staff at the end of the summer event season (approximately August/September.) Proposed materials and removal technique must be submitted with the proposal. The artist must take appropriate steps to protect all nearby surfaces including concrete work, window frames, and door components from accidental painting, splashes, or damage. The artist will be responsible for providing all materials necessary for the installation of the mural including paint, brushes, and protective supplies. Other Services to be Performed/Notes The project is expected to be completed on or before July 3, 2025 in time for 4th of July activities. A detailed project schedule must be mutually agreed upon as part of the contract award, outlining expected start and completion dates and contingency plans for delays. Artist fees will be paid according to the following schedule: 1/3 upon contract signing, 1/3 upon project commencement, and 1/3 upon project completion.
