In support of the Chief of Naval Operations diversity guidance, US Navy Personnel will participate in Sea Service Leadership Association (SSLA) Joint Women’s Leadership Symposiums (JWLS) 29-30 June in San Diego, CA as part of the women’s in-reach program. SSLA was established in 1978 as a national non-profit, non-political organization. It is currently the only non-profit organization in the United States dedicated to providing professional development through networking, education, and mentorship of women from all three maritime armed forces - the United States Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. SSLA facilitates the development of ownership, mentoring skills, and participation in educational sessions and events. The symposium provides an opportunity to engage with female Sailors, Marines, Airmen, Guardians, Guardsmen, and Soldiers, providing a unique venue that allows dialogue and direct fleet feedback. Feedback received from the symposium has been instrumental in providing positive proactive policy changes within the Navy. The JWLS supports the CNO’s Diversity Vision by helping Sailors to develop their talents to their fullest potential. It is critical that the Navy draw upon the widest possible set of talents and backgrounds to maximize its warfighting capability. SSLA can be a vehicle to help retain female Sailors. In addition to the three maritime armed forces, the Space Force, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Army and Air Force also participate in JWLS.
