Specifications include, but are not limited to: UNCG is in the process of implementing a robust metadata management process, being developed alongside workflow activities of Data Governance and Data Quality Assurance. Our current two-year roadmap includes foundational initiatives and milestones necessary for achieving the goal of comprehensive metadata management in support of Data Governance. A major initial activity on the roadmap is to evaluate and select a software solution that will facilitate the goals of the program. 4 Rev 2017/02/27 The major program goal is to develop a comprehensive framework encompassing the areas of metadata import, export, and maintenance, stewardship workflows, data quality tracking, statistical monitoring and auditing, security, and communication. The ideal software solution will directly support this goal through core functionality and capabilities. UNCG operates Ellucian Banner ERP version 9, an Oracle based system with the following major modules currently implemented: Ellucian Banner Student, Ellucian Banner Human Resources, Ellucian Banner Finance, Ellucian Banner Financial Aid, and Ellucian Banner Advancement. Additionally, the university operates a data warehouse built on Ellucian Operational Data Store (ODS), and is engaged with Microsoft for the implementation of a Azure data lake system. Across campus, departments make use of various third-party software to facilitate their operations which are distinct from the capabilities of Ellucian Banner. The ideal metadata management solution will be able to interact directly with existing campus systems.
