Specifications include, but are not limited to: The City of Durham entered into an agreement with Duke University to install fiber optic cables along the public streets for the benefit of the City and other interest of the North Carolina Triangle region. Use of the fiber network will allow the City to increase the City’s broadband capabilities and allowing the City to provide cost-effective, centralized network services to City facilities as well as partner facilities such as the Durham Housing Authority. Duke University is currently constructing dark fiber to the City facilities underground including fiber for the backbone and the spurs. The purpose of this RFP is to select a vendor that will complete the design and build of the last mile fiber between the identified handhole in the public right-of-way to the identified location in the City’s facility. As the fiber optic network is a significant investment of City resources, the Technology Solutions team wants to ensure the fiber is delivered in a consistent, repeatable format align to the City’s best practices.
