1. General media Goal: To help participants see the story in their chosen topic/area. These participants would often represent a single program. The City does a basic media training, but does not routinely record and playback interviews for participants. Deliverable: Training classes for small groups are the minimum deliverable needed here. Individual coaching, materials or tipsheets can also be proposed. 2. Advanced media Goal: To answer tough questions with grace. These participants are generally successful speaking with the media and with the public. But they have less practice with controversial issues and tough questions. We’d like them to practice the tough questions, dissecting and adjusting their answers as needed. Deliverable: The minimum deliverables are training classes for small groups and video of practice of interviews for each participant. Individual follow up or tipsheets may also be appropriate. 3. Presentations Goal: to shorten and clarify Council meeting presentations Raleigh has terrific subject matter experts who present to City Council on a range of topics. These presentations are often in the weeds – in the visuals and the words. We want to equip these SMEs to back up and see the big picture, and deliver focused material that keeps attention of Council members and the general public audience. Deliverable: Training classes on compelling PowerPoint presentations plus practice sessions are desired. Materials, including strong presentation examples, can be included if helpful.
