Specifications include, but are not limited to: A. Mowing: Mowing grassed areas 39 times during the year in all turf areas. Cut each week for 26 weeks in six month period from April 1-September 30 and provide 13 cuts each two week period in the six months from October 1-March 30 spread out based on need to maintain a well-groomed appearance. During rainy or extended dry periods, the frequency may change with the conditions. The turf shall be maintained at 1.5-3 inches in height. Mower blades shall be sharp at all times to provide a high quality cut and to minimize disease. Clippings can be left on the lawn as long as no readily visible clumps remain on the grass surface 24 hours after mowing. Otherwise, clippings shall be collected and removed by the vendor. Additional clipping and debris can be unloaded on campus in a location designated by the Facilities Director or the Vice President of Administrative Services. All debris shall be removed from the turf by the vendor prior to mowing. The vendor shall make every effort to keep grass clippings from blowing onto parked vehicles. Grass clippings and leaves are to be blown away from plant beds and trees. Cutting locations includes the area around the greenhouse. B. Edging/Trimming: Grass trimmed, edged, and weed eating of borders and edges occurring at the time of each mowing. All sidewalks, fences, driveways, parking lots, and other surfaced areas bordered by grass, buildings adjacent to turf, and tree and plant rings and beds shall be edged at the time of each mowing. Monofilament line trimmers shall not be used around trees and shrubs where injury to the bark of plants could occur. Vendor shall clean all clippings from sidewalks, curbs, and roadways immediately after mowing and/or edging occurs. C. Blowing: Concrete areas and parking lots to be blown or swept to remove grass trimmings and dirt after each mowing and trimming occurs. D. Pesticides/Herbicides Spraying: Herbicides and pesticides should be sprayed at each time of a campus visit unless they are dead/dormant during the winter months of December, January, and February. Otherwise, spraying should occur each visit to campus whether mowing is needed or not. The College will provide herbicides and pesticides. The vendor is obligated to us the herbicides and pesticides provided only on the campus of Halifax Community College.
