The building provides a simulated environment for Fire Academy trainees to experience smoke and heat while traversing the inside of a built environment. This building was built in 2001 and has had multiple minor renovations and repairs due to damage done by excessive heat and water. A recent comprehensive structural analysis to determined that the building is structurally sound overall, but due to water damage, freeze-thaw, and heat, there are large portions of the structure that must be repaired by removing the concrete slabs and rebuilding. New waterproofing systems will be needed to protect the structure from future damage. The services required of the selected design team will be to use the various reports developed by SKA Consulting Engineers, Inc., to be provided for review before design team interviews, for the basis of design for the remediation of this structure. The selected team will develop the bid documents, manage the bid process, and provide construction administration and inspection services for the work required to repair the building for ongoing use as a fire training facility.
